ISAT Preparation Classes

The International Students Admissions Test (ISAT) is a required test for international applicants to Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Biomedical Science and Dentistry courses at several Australian universities. Australia is well known for its top-quality medical programs, and several of them are recognized by the Singapore Medical Council. Like other standardized tests, the ISAT does not test specific knowledge, rather it is aptitude-based. This means that the ISAT assesses skills such as critical thinking, passage-based reasoning, argument evaluation, data interpretation and quantitative reasoning. It is designed to be challenging in order to differentiate between competitive applicants who usually achieve similarly high grades in school examinations.

The test is a 3-hour computer-based multiple-choice test designed to assess a candidate’s intellectual skills and abilities that form the foundation of academic success at tertiary level.

The International Student Admissions Test (ISAT) in Singapore is typically available from January to November. Registrations for all testing cycles in 2025 is open.

ISAT results will be released within one week of the test sitting and are considered valid for two years. Do note, you are only allowed to take the test once every 12 months (estimated from the previous test date). If a candidate takes the ISAT more than once, the universities will have access to all sets of scores.

The ISAT features 100 questions and takes 3 hours to complete, using a computer-based format. With no separate sections or breaks, it can be somewhat exhausting. This exam assesses a student’s abilities in quantitative and critical reasoning. These skills are evaluated in two main areas: the Quantitative section and the Critical Reasoning section.

• Quantitative section: It consists of data representation, logical reasoning and graphical interpretation.
• Critical Reasoning section: It tests comprehension skills, image interpretation, quote analysis and debates.

The raw score is converted to a scaled score from 100 to 200. Based on the ISAT scores of some of our students and trainers we have noticed that a score of 179 corresponds to about the 81st percentile while a score of 191 roughly corresponds to the 99th percentile. Typically, you should aim for a score above the 80th percentile to be on the safe side and secure an interview with the school of your choice.

The Singapore Medical Council (SMC), an advisory body under the Ministry of Health, maintains the compulsory continuing medical education (CME) program, oversees and controls the professional conduct and ethics of registered medical practitioners, and maintains the Register of Medical Practitioners in Singapore.

The SMC provides a list of accredited universities whose graduates are qualified to practice medicine in Singapore.
